The afterglow notably absent

Missing the brightness of wonder

The spark of the unknown

The possibility of adventure

The chance to fall in love

The world will break you

Everything will be the same

Even when it’s not

The pain

Forced you to become numb

Now the colors are gone

The moisture evaporated

Trapped in a wasteland

Unable to comfort others

Unable to help yourself

Stuck in box of despair

Excitement should never be ignored

When excitement is present

Strangle it between your fingers with urgency

Until the feeling assimilates

Deeply breathe in its residue

Until your thoughts freely flow

Smear the pigment across your skin

Until belonging finally coats your fragile frame
