The Rope

“The Rope”

When I couldn’t cope

You threw me your rope

You promised it was durable

You said this problem was curable

I believed this trope

Because there was no more hope

Then the braids began unraveling

I screamed at you

So you would see through

You said I was obscene

That I’d always been a fiend

I didn’t understand

You had reached out your hand

I could feel the tension straining

I yelled at you again

You prayed for me, amen

How very unfortunate

I was just insubordinate

Thankless and entitled

Completely unbridled

Into the bottomless void I was falling

You postured yourself with pride

Told me you had never lied

Then climbed a crooked tree

So you could stare directly down at me

I screeched as I fell

“You can all go to hell”

I could feel my heart began bleeding

You shook your proud head

Said I was better off dead

Your self preservation

Caused our love’s devastation

So you glared at me with a smile

“You’re pathetic worthless and vile”

For an eternity I’ll spend my time grieving
