I was trying to pick you up
From shoving me down
Knowing better
But letting love get the best of me
That tricky devil
Twisting our minds
Shoving convictions
Out of the light
But you made it easy
To finally let go
By not facing your demons
And trying to sick them on me
You can have my father
You can have your ex
You can convince everyone
I’m such a mess
But I’ve been here before
I don’t need people like that
You see
I was born from an acorn
In a shell all alone
I’m used to it
Under the dirt
Letting new sprouts
Force their way through
You’ve only lived in clusters
Always someone there to bail you out
It’s sad when a man lets you see
How strong you really are
It only magnifies their own weakness
Now look at me
6 feet tall
I might get chopped down again
God only knows
But I’ll always have the earth to fall back on
You’ll only have the regret
Of missing out
On watching me grow
