“Happiness”
I just want a place to call my own. A small building with four walls. I would like my children to come visit. I would like to be in love with you. I would like to hold your hand. I would like to laugh under the stars. I would like to be able to go get flowers to put on my kitchen table. I would like to go for walks with you. I would like to read in the living room. I would like to know you’re always coming home. I would like a place to write with a window to see the sunlight. I really don’t want that many things. But all of them feel so very far away. I don’t know what all went wrong. I don’t want to fight. I don’t want to cry. I don’t want to scream and yell. I don’t want to wonder if you’re talking to her. If you still think of me. If you’ll get upset I’m finally free. We made everything too complicated worrying about what everyone was taking away. Missing what we had. Lying about neighbors and hanging out with buffoons. Didn’t we have enough as it was. Couldn’t we be happy again? Just you and me. It got to where I couldn’t tell you anything. I don’t know what all went wrong. But all I want is happiness for you and for me. Someday, maybe we can both just be free.
