“Isn’t It Funny”

“Isn’t it Funny”
We’re hanging by a string my dear
And you’re pretending you’re the puppeteer
But I am trying to really fix us
Because I don’t love half way
I’m all in
Until a man crosses too many lines
Thinking there are no fines
You’re playing games
Thinking wielding your power over me
Is going to make me beg
That your lack of empathy for what you did
And how it left me
Begging for shelter
Will make me swoon
That your ability to pay for attention
Might actually impress me
You ruined me and think your standing on my neck
Because I lost everything
But sugar
I’ve lost everything so many times
I’m my own understudy
Why would you throw away what we had
Because of pride
I’M NOT TRYING TO HURT YOU
YOU HURT ME
And I need to know you won’t do it again
Or maybe you never cared
And it was always just pretend
You’ve twisted up my brain
So I can no longer tell
What is truth and what is a lie
I have good character
And a very strong heart
A smile like mine
Never fades
And its worth can never be dulled
Even by your fists
Even by your lies
