“Forsaken”

“Forsaken”

What are the unloved children supposed to do

Once we’re grown up

With overgrown scars

Of neglect and contempt

Broken family trees that black out our names

They expect us to be high functioning adults

We gave it our best

Then they burned us out

With high toxicity flames

How can we be expected to keep getting back up

When no one has our back

And never has

I tried to love

But it never seems to be enough

And I watch as everything I loved

Is taken away

Why would God let us be made this way

Broken

Without a warranty

No one to hold us when we’re trembling alone

Being told we’re worthless

Because who is going to tell them to stop

To show them they’re wrong

I was labeled with a warning

Since I took my first breath

I want to slow dance in comfort

But I keep getting stabbed in the back

Can anyone love me

Protect me from another attack
