“Albatross”

“Albatross”
You argued with me
About my tattoo
“Sailors don’t really care about the albatross”
Maybe that’s why you felt you could shoot me down
And walk away clean
But I hang around your neck
Declaring your shame
I didn’t want to harm you
I just wanted you to face what you did
But you wanted to spit in my face
Let me know every promise you made
Was a lie
So I had no choice but to make the entire crew drop dead
We sat in the doldrums for for seven days and seven nights
But no lesson was learned
As you landed in Pattaya
And continued to celebrate in lechery
Sending me outlines of your itinerary
Complaining about me to the man
Who wanted you single
So he could show you his prostitutes
What a hero
What a commendable father of a daughter
You don’t scare me
You make me sad
For losing who I thought you were
Who you told everyone you were
I left so you couldn’t hurt me
I gave up everything to not be treated with disgust
And punched in the face
For speaking up about unacceptable behaviors
By a man who told me I’d never be too much
So I send my albatross
To remind you of what you lost
And how you committed the gravest of sins
By shooting down your good omen
The one who was going to guide you home
