“Little Man”

“Little Man”
Thank you for releasing me
Letting me know I wasn’t crazy
Showing your true colors
A yellow coward
A red aggressor
A gray man of inferiority
You have no shape
As you jump from one dysfunctional bed to the next
Knowing it’s never you creating the fireworks
As we try to fan your pride
Blaming all of the women for your shortcomings
I’m just thankful that I no longer have to tolerate your manipulation and violence
Your anger with yourself
I can be me again
Even through the sorrow
Even through the pain
Not running into arms I had to pay for
But ones that want to keep me safe
Who have seen me through the fire
I’m thankful for a new beginning
A feeling of acceptance
Knowing I was never lying or hiding
Knowing I love for real
And I don’t torture others
For my own lack of accountability
You are the company you keep
And you will be
Just like the Richard that you are
With children who hate you but take your money
And women who paint you with dead eyes
A coward with balled up fists
A drug addict with denial on his lips
A small man
Not just in stature
But in worth
And pride
