“Stalemate”
I was trying so hard to reach you
Covered in gravel
Suffocated by smoke
But you only think about you
As I try to heal from wounds inflicted
You use emails that garner my name
To book prostitutes
You hit me with fists filled with rage
Still I tried to understand your pain
As you told me I was to blame
And called parents who wished I didn’t exist
I have a brain
An advanced degree
But the heart is stupid
And calls out your name
Because if I can save one
I saved them all
All of the broken men I watched
Obliterated by their own pride
As they followed the wrong women into the night
Escaping from their own demons they tried to keep out of sight
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I hope she takes you
For all that you’re worth
Because I never could
And it’s time you met your match
But seeking revenge
Makes us rot from the inside out
So I release you
My red balloon
My pretend savior
I permit you to mean nothing more
Than a lesson I should have already learned
As the world was crashing down
As the sky opens up
I rise up from the pain
I claim my domain
