“The War”
No one is coming to save you
I know
I have a constant ache in my chest
I had soldiers mutiny
I had rations run out
I had landmines placed under my bed
Shell shocked with ringing ears
Trying to breathe through crushed up ribs
The weight of a moon no longer in its orbit
Buckling from the weight
With shaking hands and busted knees
Frightened by watching
As the light leaves my eyes
As what little hope was left
Fades into dust
Dissipates into vapor
People who claimed to be lovers and family
Unite to bring more evil into the world
Something we surely can’t afford
Disregarding how careless pleasure
And selfish deeds
Only make all of us less alive
All I wanted was apologies for all of the hurt
The harmful betrayals
But some will pin you down
Bashing in teeth
Rather than face the self-hatred
Filling up their spines
Not understanding there was room for redemption
But violent refusals sealed all of our fate
And left me in empty bedrooms
Because no matter what
I am the one who will lose
Bleeding out alone
Why would I choose this
If staying was an option
How bad must it have gotten
Constantly being blamed for their actions
Too much pain to describe
As the world rips at our skin
Pierces bruised organs
I needed to be held and loved and kept safe
Now I have shaky hands
And bleeding eyes
All I feared
Has washed over me
Only broken twigs are left
The cruelest of intentions
Maybe this is the only way
There ever was
But maybe in a parallel life
The war was won
And I’m happy
In a home
Surrounded by love
