“Familiar”

“Familiar”

Pain is the only familiar thing left

As I search for family

In a house of mirrors

Distorted visions of myself

Houses with spiral staircases

Catching fire

I’m always the one who is left

As they torch my life

To ensure there is no trace

Of the abuse

I needed to be protected

As the rafters fell down

Instead I was shoved back in

As they locked the door

I had to feel it all coming down

Now they stand over me

Demanding I clean up this mess

With no help and no tools

“Here we go again

She’s talking about herself”

As I huddle inside what’s left of the fireplace

To keep myself whole

And something like warm

I’m so scared

I’m shaking

But that’s old news

And everyone has their problems

How dare I get mad and scream

And be goddam fucking pissed off

This is why nobody cares about me

This is why I’m always alone in the end

This is why

This is why

This is why
